Triad

Triad is a national program for senior citizens sponsored by the
National Sheriff’s Association
International Association of Chief of Police
AARP

Locally, Triad began when Jefferson County’s police chiefs, District Attorney David Barber, an AARP representative, Positive Maturity, RSVP and Sheriff signed an agreement to work together to improve safety for older citizens of the county.

Triad is lead by a council of senior volunteers, called The SALT Council: Seniors And Law Enforcement Together. The SALT Council members are nominated by their Chief of Police or Sheriff. The SALT Council also welcomes other members, seniors or those interested in issues of safety for seniors.

Police chiefs, police officers and deputies meet with Triad each month to consult on matters of concern to older residents. Programs offer Triad members insight into crimes against the elderly and resources for fighting those crimes. Jefferson County’s RSVP staff and others join Triad members each month to cooperate toward safer communities for everyone – especially for senior citizens.

Triad meets the second Tuesday of every month at 10:00 a.m. in the Conference Room of Boutwell Auditorium. Visitors and those interested in membership are welcome.

Leadership:
The SALT Council, 2003 Officers
Chair: Lee Bushway of Irondale
Co-chair: June Emory of Mountain Brook
Secretary: Eleanor Stubbs of Concord
Treasurer: Nell Sue Odom of Morris

Triad’s most notable project to date has been purchase and implementation of a program that automatically calls senior subscribers each day to be sure they are OK. Triad thanks everyone who bought Vidalia onions from its members and the Concordia Beneficial Society for its generosity! The program is called RUOK? The computer heart of this program resides in the Sheriff’s Communication Center. Sheriff’s personnel monitor the computer and try to contact relatives if a subscriber does not respond to the computer’s call. When no contact can be made with the subscriber Sheriff’s dispatchers notify the closest police agency to check on the welfare of the subscriber.

If you or someone you know could benefit from this service, call Lt. Mike Ozley at 325-5891 to find out how to subscribe. Subscribers must be residents of Jefferson County and at least 60 years of age.
