
The Sex Offender Notification
Unit investigator specializes in crimes involving criminal
sex offenders, State law, registration, classification, and
notification. Under exisiting law, the Community Nofification
Act provides for the community notification of the release
of criminal sex offenders. Comprehensive registration and
periodic address verification provides the Jefferson County
Sheriff's Office information critical to preventing sexual
vicitmization and to resolving incidents involving sexual
abuse and exploitation.
This
unit has begun tracking more than 676 sex offenders in the
Jefferson County communities. This unit has mailed out more
than 200 letters requesting and reminding sex offenders to
annually verify their addresses with the Jefferson County
Sheriff's Office. This unit, receiving the regsitration of
the sex offender, disseminates the registration to the local
jurisdictions, and the State of Alabama Department of Public
Safety. This unit is responsible for the notification of Sex
Offenders in the unincorporated county, and cities with populations
under five thousand. This unit is responsible for communicating
all sex offenders' information to other counties and states
on sex offenders relocating intheir counties and States. This
unit will obtain warrants on all sex offenders relocating
intheir counties and States. This unit willl obtain warrants
on all sex offenders who fail to comply with State Law. Sheriff
