An
integral component within the Sheriff's Office, the
Evidence Collection Unit is responsible for the processing
of all major crime scenes. They collect evidence, photograph
scenes, process items for fingerprints and perform many
other tasks associated with crime scenes.

The
Evidence Collection Unit is responsible for collecting,packaging,
documenting and securing all evidence until such time
that it's needed in court. They also transport evidence
to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for analysis
in drug, alcohol and rape cases and at times enlist
the aid of Federal Agencies; (FBI,ATF,DEA, etc.)
Five
highly trained technicians respond day and night to
a variety of crimes such as rapes, robberies, burglaries,
deaths and other crimes in both the Birmingham and Bessemer
Divisions of the Sheriff's Office. Each Deputy is equipped
with complete 35mm, digital and video camera kits, fingerprint
kits and more. Also, at their disposal is some of the
most advanced forensic equipment currently available.
Performing
an extremely important job, they strive to be impartial
and objective and present the facts as they are found.
